A custom mural to celebrate London’s first fullysustainably-sourcedandorganicsushi bar.
Planet Organic and Maido Sushi commissioned the TMC Studio to design an illustrated window decal for the Planet Organic flagship store on Tottenham Court Road. The custom artwork celebrates the launch of London’s first fully sustainably sourced and organic sushi bar.
The large-scale mural needed to cover an 10m wide expanse of floor-to-ceiling glass with specific practical and emotional objectives. The design challenge was to entice potential customers to enter the store, communicate the offering and USPs, leverage the Maido visual identity whilst enhancing Planet Organic's brand image, and work alongside other marketing campaigns in store. We also needed to conceal the preparation kitchen and equipment from view of passersby.
The chefs use fish that is either organically farmed or from Marine Stewardship Council-certified fisheries. Everything is free from preservatives, MSG and artificial additives. They have also taken care to ensure that all tuna is caught using short fishing lines to protect dolphin populations. Everything uses plastic-free, sustainable and 100% compostable packaging.
Celebrating these credentials, we designed a colour scheme that builds on the Maido brand's red, black and white. The complementary blue, pink and green are inspired by the ocean, fresh fish and green practices. The new colour palette preserves a limited scope and helps to create a vibrant and memorable visual.

The design showcases sixteen characters, all of different colours, enjoying their sushi. Whether on their lunch break, meeting a friend, or working remotely, the characters come together to create a truly Instagrammable moment on London's busy Tottenham Court Road.
The window decal design uses the architectural elements of the store front to further suggest the illusion of a sushi bar, with signs ‘hanging’ from the supports and branded messaging panels blocking off the base of the bar and 'behind-the-scenes' workings of the chefs.
